ALDILA ANNOUNCES NEW NV PROTOPYPE® GRAPHITE SHAFT
Poway, CA, August 27, 2004 - Aldila, Inc. (NASDAQ:NMS:ALDA) announced today an addition to their highly successful NV series with the introduction of the new NV ProtoPype® featuring carbon nanotubes.
The unique bend profile and low torque of the new NV ProtoPype® is designed to promote a lower ball flight and exceptionally tight shot dispersion. By using incredibly strong and light Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes ("SWNTs") in place of weaker, heavier epoxy resin, Aldila is able to provide the unique combination of an extremely stiff tip and very low torque with the awesome feel that all NV's® have come to be known for, eliminating the harshness and dull feel of typical tip stiff graphite shafts.
Aldila utilizes SWNTs in the new NV ProtoPype®employing a proprietary process, developed in conjunction with Carbon Nanotechnologies, Inc., a leader in the production of carbon nanotubes.
What are single-wall carbon nanotubes? Dr. Richard E. Smalley, a Nobel Prize winning scientist, provides this simple explanation of the benefits of carbon nanotubes, "based on our current understanding of chemistry and physics, SWNTs are the strongest, stiffest, toughest material that can EVER exist!" SWNTs are essentially carbon at its best and are up to 100 times stronger than steel while being many times lighter.
"Our new Aldila NV ProtoPype® product is another cutting edge addition to the NV family of shafts," said John Oldenburg, Vice President of Engineering/Product Development for Aldila. John Oldenburg continued by saying, "the testing that has been performed on these shafts has shown remarkable results from both a performance and feel perspective. Using carbon nanotubes in designing golf shafts will be a new benchmark throughout the sport worldwide."
"We are extremely excited about the playing benefits of the new Aldila NV ProtoPype® and its unparalleled performance capabilities," said Mike Rossi, Aldila's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Mike continued by saying, "our NV® product category has been a tremendous success for our company. The new NV ProtoPype® will certainly be a welcome new addition that will be enjoyed by the harder swinging professional and amateur golfers."
Along with the inclusion of SWNTs, the NV ProtoPype®, like all shafts in the NV® series, features exclusive aerospace materials and Aldila's unique Micro Laminate Technology® that provides the player enhanced power, consistent flex and precise feel. The NV ProtoPype® is currently offered in two weights, 70 and 80 grams, in Stiff and X-Stiff. Due to the materials and process involved in the production of the NV ProtoPype®, it is available for purchase in limited quantities only, direct through Aldila.
